Connecting devices to the Internet of Things onnecting devices to the Internet of Things
A half-day practical workshop for up to 10 delegates. Cost £1,800+VAT.
Objectives: By the end of the session each delegate (max 10) will be able to:
- give an overview of the Internet of Things and The Things Network
- describe the anatomy of a complete Internet of Things solution
- assemble a number of simple sensors (such as light, temperature, humidity)
- configure the sensors to send data over wireless via The Things Network
- see their sensors’ data graphically presented on a web page
Delegates may keep their devices at the end of the workshop.
Audience: The workshop is aimed at people who are interested in using the Internet of Things and would like to demystify it by going through the practical steps needed to connect remote sensors to a web page on the internet.
Delegates should be familiar with Arduino or Raspberry Pi or similar. It will help if they can write simple sketches or programs, but heavy programming skills are not required.
Overview of the workshop: In this 3-hour workshop, 30 minutes is spent introducing key concepts and giving delegates have a basic understanding of the component parts of an Internet of Things solution.
The following 2 hours are guided practical activities – connecting the Arduino, walking through sample code, assembling sensors, and sending data to The Things Network.
There is plenty of time for questions, discussion and one-to-one help.
The workshop wraps-up with a discussion on possibilities, limitations and advice on how to develop ideas further.
We provide: Two facilitators to run the workshop, laptop containing the presentation material. We will supply each delegate with an Arduino, sensor development board, example code, workshop notes and exercises.
You provide: Suitable venue equipped with projector, flipchart, pens, internet access (wifi is fine), and plenty of power sockets.
Each delegate will require a laptop with the Arduino IDE already installed (it’s free and should be downloaded from http://arduino.cc )
